Local sporting apparel, Botak, together with United Nations, organized a race event titled "Stand Up, Take Action" last 19 October at Bonifacio Global City.  As the running culture is really picking up in the local scene, the race aims to encourage Pinoys to get our acts together to fight poverty and promote education.

This race is the first in the series of short-distance races dubbed as 'Paa-bilisan'.  Botak has been involved in organizing running events way back in the 80's. They are back now to encourage more Filipinos to experience the thrill of running.  There are several more running events that they have planned so watch out for those!

The much anticipated Adidas KOTR was held last 11 Oct at Fort Bonifacio.  The race was done on a Saturday which is quite unusual as most races are scheduled on Sundays.  Even if the venue was the usual and somewhat boring Bonifacio Global City grounds, the race organizers changed the route and made it more challenging by doing it inside Makati CBD.

The early ascent along the flyover going to Gil Puyat was quite challenging because of the steep and curving path. It was the same route going back.

The Soroptimist-organized Takbo! Breast Friends was held last 5 Oct at Pasig City.  Prior to the race flag-off, there were warm-up exercises and talks related to breast cancer awareness in the Philippines.

The turn-out of runners who participated in the event was very impressive.  There was a good mix of male and female runners. A huge contingent from PNP and several schools joined the event.

The race started at Ultra and went along Meralco Ave, Julia Vargas, and C5.  It was a fun and light race except for the hulabaloo on who really won the 10k race.  One reason for this confusion is because of the same flag-off times of all the race categories (3k, 5k, and 10k) and few directional signages and marshalls along the route

Here are some pics taken during the Fun Run:

Incidentally, Optic Nerve has a limited edition of sunglasses for Breast Cancer awareness.  This model is available in black or white.  If interested, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
